The 2025 Diamond League Final wrapped up an exciting couple of days of athletics in Zurich. Many familiar faces appeared on top of the podium, while we also had some breakout performances.
Both the men’s and women’s 400-meter hurdles records were broken today. Femke Bol ran 52.18 seconds to finish ahead of Slovakia’s Emma Zapletalová, who set a new national record with 53.18 seconds. Bol also held the previous record of 52.80 seconds.
On the men’s side, Karsten Warholm broke the meet record with 46.70 seconds, also breaking his previous record of 46.92.
Julien Weber once again threw over 90 meters in the men’s javelin, setting a new personal best of 91.51 meters. Luiz Mauricio Da Silva and Neeraj Chopra are the only two other throwers over 90 meters this year. Chopra also finished second today behind Weber with 85.01 meters.
Olyslagers Clears 2.04m
Nicola Olyslagers took over the world lead in the women’s high jump, clearing 2.04 meters on her first attempt, and finishing ahead of the favorite and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who finished second with 2.02 meters. Third place, Morgan Lake, established a new Great Britain record with 2.00 meters.
Olyslagers has quietly established herself as one of the top high jumpers of all time, largely overshadowed by Mahuchikh but winning four out of seven of their head-to-head match-ups this season–perhaps now making them co-favorites for winning the world championships next month.
Not only was Olyslager’s jump a new Australian record and a personal best, it was also a new continental record for Oceania.
Tinch Dominates Hurdles
Cordell Tinch delivered a sub-thirteen-second time in the men’s 100-meter hurdles, running 12.92 seconds for a new meet record. Tinch currently holds the world lead with his 12.87-second time from May.
Other Notable Performances
Switzerland’s Audrey Werro ran 1:55.91 to break the Swiss record in the women’s 800-meter and beat our heavy favorite, Georgia Hunter Bell.
Ditaji Kambundji joined her by setting a new national record on home soil, running 12.40 seconds in the women’s 100-meter hurdles and finishing second behind Ackera Nugent, who ran 12.40 seconds.
Perhaps notably, Mondo Duplantis did NOT break the world record in the men’s pole vault. He’s been so dominant over the past two years that it’s almost easier for us to report when he doesn’t break the record rather than when he does. He still took home the victory, clearing 6.00 meters even, but being challenged by Emmanouil Karalis, who also cleared 6.00 meters–Duplanitis took victory on countbacks.
Karalis is having a great season himself, despite being in Diplantis’ shadow, having cleared 6.08 meters and rising to fourth on the all-time list.
