Sports Career of Grant Fisher | Grant Fisher Biography
Grant Fisher reached early success in track and field, finishing ninth at the 2013 World Youth Championships as a 15-year-old with a time of 3:52.00. He continued to improve over the next couple of years and finished third at the USA Junior Championships when he was still 17 years old.
Fisher entered the NCAA in 2016, running Division I track for Stanford University. In his first year, he finished sixth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 13:30.13.
The next year, Fisher returned to the NCAA Division I Championships in the 5,000-meter and won a strategic race where the winning time was only 14:35.60. He picked up medals the next two years as well in the event, finishing third and second, respectively.
The first time Fisher ran for Team USA at the senior level was at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, after finishing second at the USA Olympic Trials in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter events. Fisher ran both races at the Olympics. He finished fifth in the 10,000-meter and ninth in the 5,000-meter.
Shortly after the Olympics, Fisher made his Diamond League debut in Lausanne, finishing tenth in the 3,000-meter.
Fisher followed up his Olympic performance by finishing fourth at the World Championships on home soil the next year in Eugene in the 10,000-meter and finishing sixth in the 5,000-meter. He ended his season by running at the three Diamond League meetings in Monaco, Belgium, and Switzerland, finishing top three in all of them.
2023 Onwards
Fisher ran the 10,000-meter at the USA Championships in 2023 but finished fourth and missed out on a spot on the World Championship team. After the race, an MRI revealed that he had a femur injury, and he had to pull out of the 5,000-meter.
Fisher’s breakthrough year would come in 2024. During the indoor season, he set an indoor 3,000-meter world record at the Millrose Games with a time of 7:22.91 and then broke the 5,000-meter world record at the BU Valentine Invitational, running 12:44.09. In the summer, he went on to win the USA Olympic trials in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter events and then followed this up with two bronze medal-winning runs at the Olympic Games in these events.
In 2025, he competed in two Grand Slam meetings in Miami and Kingston, Jamaica, winning the 5,000-meter in both competitions before finishing second at the USA Championships in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter.
He ended his 2025 season by finishing eighth in both of these events at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
