Sports Career of Tina Clayton | Tina Clayton Biography
Tina Clayton, and her twin sister, Tia Clayton, have been dubbed “the world’s fastest twins.” The pair of Jamaican sisters has already surged to the top of the 100–meter top lists, and Tina Clayton won silver in the 100-meter at the recent Tokyo World Championships.
Tina Clayton ran 12.12 seconds in the 100-meter when she was 12 years old, one of the fastest times ever recorded at that age. Two years later, she recorded the fastest time of all-time by a girl age 14 or younger when she ran 11.27 seconds in Kingston at the Jamaican School Championships.
Most of Clayton’s 2020 season was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but she came back in 2021 to run 11.25 seconds at the Jamaican U20 Championships.
This would also be the season when she started to see international success. In July 2021, she won the NACAC U18 Championships in Costa Rica with a new personal best of 11.17 seconds. She followed this up by winning the U20 World Championships in Kenya the next month, running 11.09 seconds into a headwind. She also won gold in the 4 x 100-meter relay with her sister.
Clayton defended her title in both these events at the World U20 the next year in Cali, Colombia. Her winning time of 10.95 seconds in the 100-meter was the fastest ever run by a 17-year-old.
Clayton continued dominating the 100-meter sprint in Jamaica the next season and also won the
5° Meeting Brazzale in Italy.
In 2024, she took a step back and missed out on the Olympic Games, finishing fourth in her semi-final race at the Jamaican Championships and not advancing to the final. However, she regained form in 2025 and ran a new personal best of 10.81 seconds in the 100-meter to win the Jamaican Championships.
She took this momentum into the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, running another personal best in the final with a time of 10.76 seconds, capturing silver. She also picked up another silver medal in the 4 x 100-meter relay with her sister and compatriots Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Jonielle Smith.
