Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Women’s 100m

Nine women will stand at the 100-meter start line this Saturday, August 16, in Silesia, Poland. The 2025 Kamila Skolimowska Memorial women’s 100m could very well be a preview of the 100-meter final this September at the World Championships.

The women’s 100-meter field features a stacked lineup, including the number 2, 3, and 4 ranked women in the world with Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Dina Asher-Smith, and Tia Clayton, respectively.

Although she hasn’t broken the 11-second barrier this season yet, Sha’Carri Richardson is tied for the fastest personal best in the field with Jefferson-Wooden at 10.65 seconds.

Despite Sha’Carri Richardson being at the forefront of the media cycle recently, the defending World Champion hasn’t yet found her form this year. She receives a bye to the World Championships this September in Tokyo in the 100-meter for being the defending champion, but it’s quite possible she wouldn’t have qualified otherwise. Her season’s best would have gotten her seventh at the recent USATF Championships.

Richardson was recently arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for an alleged domestic violence incident against her boyfriend and American sprinter Christian Coleman. As seen on security footage.

She was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic violence assault and spent roughly 19 hours at the SCORE South Correctional Entity. Coleman did not press charges. When questioned on the arrest, he said, “I don’t feel like she should have been arrested. I mean people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody.”

After the arrest, Richardson missed a spot in the 200m final at the USATF Championships by 0.01 seconds, with a time of 22.56 seconds.

Of course, the advantage of being the defending champion is that she has the opportunity to build longer into the year without having to peak in July. Each of her three races this year has gotten faster, so this weekend will tell us which direction her season is moving in.

In contrast, Jefferson-Wooden ran a personal best and world lead in the 100-meter at the USATF Championship. Her time of 10.65 seconds likely makes her the favorite going into Tokyo, maintaining a 0.10-second world lead over Julien Alfred’s time of 10.75 seconds from June 15th in Stockholm.

Jefferson-Wooden has run under 10.80 seconds four times already this season, including one run into a +2.4m/s and one into a -1.5m/s wind. She captured a bronze medal in Tokyo last summer with a time of 10.92 seconds and looks poised to at least repeat this performance if not run faster.

The Olympic Champion Julien Alfred was originally scheduled to race this weekend, but she’ll miss the Silesia Diamond League meeting as well as the Lausanne and Brussels meetings as she recovers from an undisclosed injury.  She’s expected back in time for the final in Zurich from August 27–28 and the World Championships from September 13 to 21 in Tokyo.

Alfred is fresh off a personal best in the 200-meter that she set at the London Diamond  League meeting on July 19, but it’s yet to be seen how her injury will affect the rest of her season.

Asher-Smith is a 17-time Diamond League winner and looks to be in good form ahead of this week’s competition. The former World Champion has run 10.93 seconds in Stockholm at the Bauhaus-Galan Diamond League meet less than a month ago.

The world’s fastest female twins, Tia and Tina Clayton, will also be present this weekend, having run 10.86 and 10.81 seconds respectively this season. Both twins seem to be finding their own this season, having set their personal bests at the Jamaican Championships at the end of June.

The Rest of the Field in the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Women’s 100m
