It may still be early in the season, but there’s no shortage of competitions coming up in the next three weeks to keep your eye on. Multiple Diamond League Events, the Asian Championships, and Grand Slam Philadelphia are just a few.
Here’s what you can expect for the rest of the month.

May 16 – Doha Diamond League (Qatar)
The Jetour Doha Diamond League meeting is slated for this upcoming Friday, May 16. It’s the third event in the tour this season.
According to the meet website, 45 Olympic and World medalists are slated to competed. Notably, it will feature Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce in her final year of competition.
May 18 – Golden Grand Prix (Japan)
The Golden Grand Prix is an annual competition on the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold that has been held annually since 2011. Many of the world’s best athletes are posted on the start list including:
- Christian Coleman (100m)
- Andre De Grasse (200m)
- Brandon Stark (high jump)
- Shakari Richardson (100m)
- Yaroslava Makhchikh (high jump)
May 22–24 – Boris Hanžeković Memorial (Croatia)
The Boris Hanžeković Memorial is another World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event that will be held in Zagreb from May 22–24. It’s one of the oldest sporting events in Croatia, held annually since 1951. Arguably the biggest name that appears on the start list is Julien Alfred, the Olympic champion in the 100m. She will be running the 200m at this event.
May 25 – Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athlétisme de Rabat (Morocco)
The Rabat Diamond League event will showcase Letsile Tebogo, last year’s 200m Olympic Champion as well as many other top athletes including Beatrice Chebet. She’s the world record holder in the 10,000m and Olympic gold medalist last year in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi has also confirmed his participation. The young Kenyan won the 800m Olympic gold last summer in Paris. His time of 1:41.19 makes him the third fastest of all time at that distance.
May 27–31 – 2025 Asian Athletics Championships (South Korea)
The Asian Athletics Championships is a biannual continental championship. This year, it will be held in Gumi, South Korea from May 27–31. As a continental championship, it will naturally feature many of the top athletes from across the continent. Notably, Woo Sang-Hyeok who won the What Gravity Challenge in Doha this past weekend. Woo is already a two-time winner of the event.

May 30 – Irena Szewińska Memorial (Poland)
The Irena Szewińska Memorial is another gold tour event that will be held in Poland. The start lists haven’t been posted yet but will be sure to feature to top talent. Last year’s start list included Emmanouil Karalis (pole vault) and Leonardo Fabbri (shot put).
May 30–01 – Grand Slam Philadelphia (USA)
The Grand Slam track tour is a new series created by Michael Johnson that has already hosted meetings in Kingston, Jamica and Miami this season. The Philadelphia edition will name 12 more slam champions, who will each take home $100,000.

May 31 Kip Keino Classic
The Kip Keino Classic is a gold tour events that’s both one of the top meetings in Africa and the world. It’s set to take place in Nairobi. Last year, we saw Ethan Katzberg, World and Olympic champion, toss 84.38m in the hammer throw.
May 31–01 – Hypomeeting Götzis
This will be the 50th anniversary for the Hypomeeting Götzis. It remains one of the most important events on the calender for multi-event athletes. Most of the world’s top multi athletes will be competing including Damian Warner, who is an 8 time winner of the event. His compatriot and world champion, Pierce LePage, will also be joining the field.
