Dear readers,
McGill University in Montreal recently announced that it will cut its track and field team in the 2026–2027 season after 125 years in operation. In response, the team has launched a petition that has already garnered more than 9,000 signatures at the time of writing.
Many of you will be reading this from outside of Canada. Whether that’s in the United States, the Caribbean, Oceania, or elsewhere, I strongly encourage you to take a moment to help them save their program by signing their petition.
No matter where you’re located, I’m sure that you can appreciate the impact this has on the lives of the athletes and staff involved, who are as passionate about the sport as you are. Track and field struggles to find its place at the financial table, from the grassroots level all the way up to world events, so collective action is needed to ensure the continued success of the sport.
Someday in the future, you may find it’s your program in trouble, and I’m sure you would appreciate the same solidarity from the global track and field community if that day ever comes.
Thank you,
– Daniel Yetman
