Anna Hall
Sports Career of Anna Hall | Anna Hall Biography
Anna Hall is an American heptathlete who is tied for the second-highest score of all time. She’s also the defending World Champion in the event.
Hall was born in Denver, Colorado to an athletic family. She played many sports growing up, such as football, basketball, tennis, and athletics. Her ability to juggle multiple sports would come in handy in her future career as a heptathlete.
Hall showed exceptional promise in the multi-events and individual events through high school, winning the New Balance Indoor Championships in the pentathlon three times from 2017 to 2019. In 2018, she qualified for her first national team, finishing ninth at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, despite being only 17.
In 2019, she won the Pan-American U20 championships in the heptathlon.
College Career
After high school, Hall spent the next three years at the University of Georgia. As a freshman, she finished second in the pentathlon and third in the high jump at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships.
She skipped the heptathlon at the 2021 Outdoor NCAA Championships to focus on preparing for the U.S. Olympic Trials, which were delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she fell in her 100-meter hurdle race at the Olympic trials and broke her left foot. The injury required surgery, and she wasn’t able to walk until October, four months later.
In an interview with Track and Field News, she said, “I didn’t really know what the future would hold or if I would have to switch events.”
While she was recovering from her injury, Hall would transfer to the University of Florida. In her first competition back from her injury in January 2022, she jumped 5.97 meters in the long jump, ran 8.41 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, high jumped 1.70 meters, and threw the shot put 12.31 meters.
She went on to win the NCAA indoor title in the pentathlon and the outdoor title in the heptathlon, helping her school win its first-ever women’s outdoor national championship. Her score of 6,458 points in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays broke the previous collegiate record held by the World Record holder in the event, Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Later that spring at the USATF Combined Event Championships, she beat her personal best again with a score of 6,458 points.
Hall’s success continued when she scored 6,755 at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, improving her personal best by almost 300 points and capturing bronze.
Start of Anna Hall’s Professional Career
In August 2022, Hall signed with Adidas. The following May, she improved her heptathlon personal best by 233 points and set a world-leading mark of 6,988 at the Hypo-Meeting in Götzis, Austria, setting personal bests in five events on the way. She ended her season finishing second at the World Championships behind Great Britain’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Hall required a small knee procedure the next January and had to miss the World Indoor Championships. She returned in the summer to win the heptathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials. At the Olympic Games, she placed fifth overall.
In May 2025, Hall once again found success at the Hypo-Meeting in Götzis. She broke the 7,000 point mark with a score of 7,032 to tie Carolina Klüftfor for the second-highest score of all time. En route to this score, she set a new heptathlon record in the 800-meter with a time of 2:01.23.
