Sports Career of Gout Gout | Gout Gout Sprinter Biography

Gout Gout is an upcoming Australian sprinter who currently holds the 200-meter Oceania record with 20.02 seconds. His world-class times at a young age have drawn parallels to the World Record holder in the 100-meter and 200-meter, Usain Bolt.

His school’s track and field coach, Diane Sheppard, identified his potential talents when he was 13, and he went on to win the 100-meter and 200-meter events at a school competition.

He continued to run exceedingly fast times in Australia as a youth, drawing local attention as an upcoming track star. His first results on his World Athletics page are times of 11.51 in the 100-meter and 22.68-meter in the 200-meter, respectively, both run into a negative wind at the age of 13. At his next competition, still age the age of 13, he ran 11.15 seconds in the 100-meter.

The next year, he ran under 11 seconds for the first time, running 10.95 seconds at the Queensland Championships, winning the U16 section. By the end of the year, he ran 10.57 seconds in the 100-meter and 21.14 seconds in the 200-meter.

The next year at the Queensland Athletics State Championships, he ran another personal best of 10.43 seconds in the 100-meter. He also ran a personal best in the 200-meter of 20.87 seconds at the Australian Championships.

Gout Gout competed internationally for the first time in 2024, running 20.60 at the World U20 Championships in the 200-meter and finishing second behind South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza.

By the end of 2024, Gout Gout ran 20.04 seconds in the 200-meter and 10.04 seconds in the 100-meter. On March 29, 2025, Gout Gout ran under 10 seconds for the first time, running 9.99 seconds in the heats and final at the Australian U20 Championships. He broke the 20-second barrier for the first time on March 16, 2025, with 19.98 seconds (+3.6s). He ran 19.84 seconds with a +2.2m/s wind at the Australian Championships.

Gout Gout competed at his first circuit meeting outside of Australia at the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike in June 2025, finishing first with a wind-legal 20.02-second time, which is an Oceania record.

He competed in the Diamond League for the first time in July, running in the U23 section in Monaco and winning his race.

Gout Gout qualified for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo for the 200-meter. He ran 20.23 in the heats to advance to the semi-finals, where he ran 20.36 and finished fourth in his section.

He opened his 2025-2026 season in Australia by running a personal best in the 400-meter of 46.14 seconds.
