Full 2025 Rabat Diamond League Results: Chebet Breaks African Record, 5 Meet Records

The defending Olympic Champion in the 5000 and 10,000 meters made a statement this evening in Rabat, breaking the Diamond League, meet, and African Records in the 3000 meters. Beatrice Chebet’s time of 8:11.56 ranks her second all-time in the event, only behind China’s Junxia Wang, who ran 8:06.11 the last time the event was contested at the World Championships in 1993.

“I am so so happy. I was not preparing a world record attempt,” said Chebet after her race. “I just came to run my personal best and I succeeded. I just have to believe in myself and then maybe after some months or years, that world record will come. It is just a matter of time and I don’t want to rush things.”

Of course, it’s still early in the season, and we can expect to see Chebet race in the longer distances in the coming months. In her own words, “My main focus and goal are the World Championships in Tokyo.”

The Tokyo World Championships will be held from September 13 to 21.

Giving chase to Chebet was Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, who took home silver in the 10,000 last summer at the Paris Olympic Games. This evening, she would also find herself second only to Chebet, running an Italian National Record of 8:26.27 in her first race back on the track this season. The race seemed to hold particular sentiment for Battocletti, who was running in front of her family. “My goal was to run fast but I was not focused on that national record. My mom’s family is from Morocco and they are all here in the stadium.”

Six other women also finished with personal bests in the event, including:

  • Sarah Healy: 8:27.02 (3rd)
  • Yenenesh Shimket: 8:32.01 (5th)
  • Marta Alemayo: 8:32.20 (6th)
  • Aleshign Baweke: 8:32.88 (7th)
  • Diane van ES: 8:38.12 (9th)
  • Asmarech Anley: 8:42.41 (11th)

Four Other Meet Records in Rabat

Four other meet records were set this evening in Rabat. On the men’s side, we saw Tshpiso Msalela run 1:42.70 in the 800-meter to finish ahead of Great Britain’s Max Burgin, who ran a personal best of 1:43.34.

The American Jonah Koech also set a new meet record with a time of 3:31.43 in the men’s 1500-meters, just pulling ahead of the Kenyan’s Reynold Cheruiyot and Festus Lagat.

The World Record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, Tobi Amusan, took a sizeable 0.18-second lead over second-place Nadine Visser on her way to a meet record.

Femke Bol comfortably ran 52.46 seconds in the women’s 400-meter hurdles for a meet record and a comfortable lead in her season’s debut to hold off Andrenette Knight, who ran 53.90 seconds. Bol’s next race will be the FBK games in her home country of the Netherlands on June 9.

Next Stop, Rome

The next stop on the Diamond League circuit will be Rome on June 6. Confirmed athletes include Hamish Kerr (high jump), Quincy Hall (400-meter), and Thea LaFond (triple jump).
